Anwar Ibrahim Reveals Conversation with Prabowo
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has revealed the content of his discussion with President Prabowo Subianto during a meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta today, Friday, 27 March 2026. Anwar stated that his meeting with Prabowo opened constructive avenues for finding common ground in addressing the West Asian conflict.
The war involving the United States alongside Israel against Iran has been described as shaking global stability. Therefore, Anwar said, Malaysia and Indonesia need to strengthen cooperation to maintain regional stability and public welfare.
“In the face of increasingly acute global uncertainties, Malaysia and Indonesia affirm the need to strengthen principled regional alignment to maintain peace, ensure stability, and bolster economic resilience for the people’s welfare,” Anwar said in Malay, via his social media account X @anwaribrahim, on Friday.
According to the Prime Minister, he and Prabowo agreed to intensify diplomatic efforts to ease the West Asian conflict, in order to protect civilian lives and open space for negotiations towards a peaceful and sustainable solution.
At the same time, Anwar said, both countries also emphasised the importance of maintaining stability on strategic trade routes, such as the Strait of Hormuz. This is to ensure that global supply chains are not affected by the ongoing war.
Furthermore, Anwar conveyed that the neighbouring country continues to communicate with world leaders to align views and assess the global impacts of the developing conflict, particularly in terms of energy supply and regional security.
“Malaysia remains steadfast in its stance, rejecting terrorism, upholding international law, and urging all parties to return to the path of peace,” said Anwar.
Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to Jakarta was at the invitation of President Prabowo, following a telephone conversation on 23 March 2026. The communication between the two national leaders was previously held in the context of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.
Less than a week later, Anwar Ibrahim departed for Indonesia to fulfil President Prabowo’s invitation. Anwar landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, East Jakarta, on Friday afternoon. He was directly welcomed by Foreign Minister Sugiono.
