Anwar Ibrahim Meets Prabowo, Agree to De-escalate Conflict in the Middle East
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. Anwar Ibrahim revealed that Malaysia and Indonesia have agreed to de-escalate the conflict in the Middle East.
“Today’s meaningful meeting with President @prabowo opens constructive space in seeking common ground to address the Western Asia conflict that is currently pressuring energy security and global economic stability,” Anwar Ibrahim wrote on his Instagram account on Friday (27/3/2026).
As kindred nations, Anwar emphasised that Malaysia and Indonesia are firm in preserving security and stability amid deepening global uncertainties.
“In the sharpening global uncertainty, Malaysia and Indonesia affirm the need to strengthen principled regional unity to preserve security, ensure stability, and bolster economic resilience for the people’s welfare,” he stated.
Indonesia and Malaysia, according to Anwar, have agreed to de-escalate the conflict so that the war victims in the Middle East do not escalate further. Moreover, with the conflict subsiding, it is hoped that the global economy can recover.
“We agree to intensify diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict, protect civilian lives, and open space for negotiations towards a safe and lasting resolution. At the same time, the continuity of global supply chains and strategic trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, must be ensured not to be disrupted,” he said.
Anwar affirmed his country’s position in rejecting violence for world peace. Anwar also conveyed his dialogues with other countries’ leaders during his meeting with Prabowo.
“I also informed about interactions with fellow international leaders as efforts to express solidarity, align views, and examine global impacts, especially in terms of energy and regional security,” Anwar stated.
“Malaysia remains firm in its stance, rejecting terrorism, upholding international law, and urging all parties to return to the path of peace,” he added.
