Anwar Ibrahim Demands Transparent Investigation into Alleged Mismanagement of Tabung Haji

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has requested that the investigation into the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) regarding the management of Lembaga Tabung Haji be conducted transparently, without protecting any parties proven to have committed violations.

Anwar made the statement while attending the ‘Kuala Pilah Berselawat and Negeri Sembilan Munajat Perdana’ event in Dataran Melang, Negeri Sembilan, on Thursday (30/7), one day after the 211-page RCI report was published by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim).

“The RCI has established who is responsible. As Prime Minister, I have instructed that this matter be investigated transparently,” said Anwar. He emphasised that the government would no longer cover up the alleged violations revealed in the report, stating, “There must be no more attempts to cover things up. We have waited too long.”

According to Anwar, the RCI report must serve as the basis for identifying those responsible for the alleged irregularities in the management of Tabung Haji during the 2014–2020 period.

On that occasion, Anwar also asserted that he remains open to criticism and input, provided it is delivered constructively. He noted that the government is currently working to rectify various weaknesses left by the previous administration.

“Criticise me, advise me. But do not insult me. If there are shortcomings, point them out. Give us the opportunity to correct past mistakes and weaknesses and to improve the situation,” he said.

Anwar added that these improvement efforts are primarily aimed at enhancing the welfare of the needy through policies based on Islamic values. In his speech, Anwar, who is also the Chairman of Pakatan Harapan, also urged the people of Negeri Sembilan to elect leaders based on integrity, honesty, and a track record of public service, rather than political sentiment or hatred.
