Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim discussed the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East via telephone with President Prabowo Subianto, Anwar stated in a press release in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (24/3).

“In the phone call with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto yesterday (Monday), we exchanged views on various current issues, including the Iran-Israel conflict,” said Anwar.

He and Prabowo also agreed to hold a meeting in the near future.

That meeting includes plans for Anwar’s visit to Jakarta to strengthen bilateral relations.

“Touching on regional and international issues, we also exchanged views on the Iran-Israel conflict and the importance of a sustained diplomatic approach,” said Anwar.

The two leaders also called for peace, and Malaysia will continue to support diplomatic efforts to defuse the conflict, according to the statement.

“So that tensions can be reduced, civilian lives protected, and meaningful negotiation space opened towards a peaceful and sustainable resolution,” Anwar said.

Previously, President Prabowo contacted several country leaders for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, including Anwar Ibrahim.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the communication was part of efforts to maintain closeness and strengthen inter-state cooperation.

He added that it was done at the meaningful momentum of Eid al-Fitr.
