Anwar accuses Mahathir of lying
KUALA LUMPUR (Agencies): Malaysia's jailed former deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim insisted on Monday he had declared his assets while in office and accused Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad of lying about the issue.
Mahathir last week said Anwar, who has filed police reports while in custody alleging high-level government corruption, had failed to declare his own assets while in office.
The premier said Anwar, "who has been shouting from the rooftop that everybody should be transparent, has never declared his assets.
But Anwar, in an e-mail statement released through his wife's opposition party, said Mahathir "is lying when he says that I did not declare my assets when I was the deputy prime minister of Malaysia."
Anwar was taken from hospital by police on Monday and transferred directly to Sungai Buloh prison where he is serving a six-year term for corruption.
