Anwar Abbas Hopes China and Russia Will Assist Iran in Facing US-Israel Attacks
Social and religious observer Anwar Abbas has criticised attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran. Abbas expressed hope that China and Russia will assist Iran in countering the brutal attacks being launched by the US and Israel against a nation that does not align with their interests.
“If Israel is being supported by the United States to attack Iran, then China and Russia should likewise assist Iran in confronting Israel and the United States. It is time for China and Russia to openly demonstrate their willingness to defend nations oppressed by the United States, because if these two countries do not act, the US will certainly continue to freely victimise nations that refuse to obey its orders,” Abbas told journalists on Sunday (1 March 2026).
Abbas stated that it is time for China and Russia to demonstrate their strength by deploying their naval fleets to confront these two powers. In doing so, he said, the US would think twice before launching attacks.
“For this reason, China and Russia should now display their military power by moving their fleets closer to the Gulf region so that the United States will think twice before attacking Iran—especially since the United States well knows that if its country becomes too deeply embroiled in direct warfare, it will not be able to win in the medium to long term,” he said.
The vice chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) referenced history when the United States withdrew from the Vietnam War following the Paris Peace Accords of 23 January 1973. Abbas also recalled when the US withdrew its forces from Afghanistan in 2021.
“Look at what happened in Vietnam and Afghanistan. In Vietnam, the US was defeated by the Viet Cong army, which fought against US forces using guerrilla tactics, ultimately forcing the US to withdraw from the Vietnam War,” Abbas said.
“Similarly, in Afghanistan, the advanced weapons possessed by the US proved unable to weaken the resolve of the Taliban, so the US was forced to leave the land of the mujahidin,” he added.
The chairman of Muhammadiyah’s central board expressed hope that Iran, China, and Russia will take firmer steps against the United States. He stated that the world currently yearns to live without the presence of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“It is now time for Iran to point the barrel of its ballistic missiles at Washington DC and Tel Aviv to destroy the thrones of Trump and Netanyahu, so that it is hoped the US and Israel will no longer dare to do as they please in destroying nations and leaders they do not favour,” Abbas said.
“This is very important for Iran, China, and Russia to do together because the world now deeply longs for a day when people can live on this earth without the presence of Donald Trump and Netanyahu,” he added.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has been reported dead in strikes by the US and Israel in Tehran. Khamenei has long been known as the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic.
It is understood that the US and Israel launched attacks on Iranian territory on Saturday (28 February). Khamenei’s residence complex in Tehran is reported to have been hit by dozens of bombs. Iranian media also reported that Khamenei’s daughter and granddaughter were killed.
