Antipolio drive exceeds target
JAKARTA (JP): More than one million city infants recieved polio vaccines yesterday, exceeding the target of 972,100 by 4.17 percent, according to the head of the city's health agency.
Askin Lasman said yesterday that East Jakarta recorded the largest number with 254,884 of the 1,012,646 recipients.
Last year, 969,833 children were vaccinated, or 1.9 percent more than the target of 951,900 infants.
The fourth round of the antipolio drive will be held next year.
Governor Surjadi Soedirdja has expressed optimism that the annual drive should succeed in eradicating polio in the city by the year 2000. (07)
