Antigraft court to hear second case

JAKARTA: The Central Jakarta District Court announced on Friday that the anti-corruption court will hear a corruption case involving two officials with the communications ministry on Jan. 27.

A panel of five judges, led by Judge Mansyurdin Chaniago, will hear the case of former finance division head of the directorate general for marine transportation of the Ministry of Communications Harun Let Let and former secretary to the director general for marine transportation Capt. Tarsisius Walla.

"The anti-corruption court is ready to hear the case," said I Made Karna, the head of the Central Jakarta District Court which supervises the anti-corruption court.

Let Let and Walla are currently being detained at the Salemba Penitentiary in South Jakarta. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), which investigated the case, had submitted the indictment to the court on Thursday.

They will sit in the dock for alleged involvement in the mark up of the price of a plot of land measuring 14.5 hectares the Ministry of Communications bought to develop a seaport in Tual, Maluku, resulting in state losses worth over Rp 10 billion (US$1.10 million). -- JP
