Anticorruption aspirants inconsistent

JAKARTA: More than a quarter of the 39 applicants for the Anticorruption Commission (KPK)'s executive have had to repeat their profile assessment tests due to inconsistencies in their responses.

"Yes, some of them have to had to take a second questionnaire test," Abdulgani Abdullah, the deputy chairman of the selection committee for the commission's executive, said on Saturday.

However, he declined to speculate whether the aspirants who took the second test would fail.

All but one, Hazeliponi Sasiang from Makassar in South Sulawesi, took the test. The selection team had summoned 40 hopefuls for the test.

Separately, Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas and M. Yamin, two candidates who did not have to repeat their tests, said they believed three of the four tests they had participated in were transparent and fair.

"If the committee uses their recommendations, I believe it is fair. The results will be good," said Yamin, who is known as a tough anticorruption prosecutor.

Only half of the candidates will qualify for the final test, interviews that will be open to the public on Dec. 4.

The third test is supposed to screen the integrity and capabilities of the candidates in combating corruption. -- JP
