Anticipating Return Traffic Surge This Weekend, Jasa Marga Urges Travellers to Utilise Alternative Rest Areas
Jasa Marga recorded traffic conditions returning to the Jabotabek area during the Idulfitri 1447H/2026 return flow period on 26-27 March 2026 as tending to be distributed.
After the highest traffic return to Jabotabek occurred on 24 March 2026 (256,338 vehicles), Jasa Marga noted that traffic was also distributed on 25 March 2026 with 206,243 vehicles and on 26 March 2026 with 192,122 vehicles.
These figures represent the cumulative traffic flow from four main Toll Gates (GT), namely GT Cikampek Utama (from the Trans Java direction), GT Kalihurip Utama and GT Functional Japek II South (from the Bandung direction), GT Cikupa (from the Merak direction), and GT Ciawi (from the Puncak direction).
This was conveyed by Jasa Marga President Director Rivan A. Purwantono, accompanied by Jasa Marga Business Director Reza Febriano and Jasa Marga Business Development Director Ari Respati, during a press conference on preparations for the return flow at the Command Centre KM 29 PJR of the National Police Traffic Corps on Friday, 27 March 2026.
The event was also attended by Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi and National Police Traffic Corps Chief Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho.
Rivan stated that based on data from the four main toll gates, the return flow reached 2.36 million vehicles heading towards Jakarta or around 69.45% of the total projected return flow of 3.39 million vehicles.
“Potential increases in return flow are still estimated to occur during the weekend period up to 28-29 March 2026. The high volume of vehicles this weekend will also impact increased activity at toll road rest areas. We apologise for any inconvenience to toll road users affected by congestion at several points,” said Rivan.
Rivan mentioned that several rest areas on the Trans Java Toll Road towards Jakarta are likely to experience density, particularly at KM 229B and KM 208B on the Palikanci section as well as KM 164B on the Cipali section.
Therefore, toll road users are advised to plan their journeys by utilising alternative rest areas, either before those points such as at KM 360B and KM 380B on the Batang-Semarang section, or after them at KM 130B on the Cipali section.
