Anticipating Return Traffic, Red Lights on Ida Bagus Mantra Bypass to Be Accelerated
The duration of red lights at traffic signals along the Ida Bagus Mantra Bypass road in Gianyar will be accelerated during the Eid return traffic period. This is being done to anticipate heavy traffic flow coming from Padangbai Port in Karangasem, Bali.
“We are engineering it by accelerating the red lights. That is one of the technical efforts to smooth the traffic flow,” said Gianyar Police Chief AKBP Chandra Kesuma to detikBali on Monday (23/3/2026).
Chandra stated that traffic engineering will be implemented at four road intersections on the Ida Bagus Mantra Bypass. Starting from the Pantai Siyut Road junction, Pantai Lebih Road junction, Pantai Masceti Road junction, and Pantai Purnama Road junction.
The red light duration at these four intersections will be accelerated or opened earlier to reduce queues. Chandra predicts many vehicles will pass through these intersections to visit the four beaches.
“Because usually after Nyepi, many residents relax at the beach. Yesterday there was also a report of congestion at the Pantai Purnama Road junction,” said Chandra.
“The traffic lights at that intersection are also not functioning normally,” he added.
According to Chandra, monitoring of traffic flow on that road section on H+2 Eid does not yet show any congestion. The vehicle traffic situation on the Ida Bagus Mantra Bypass is still monitored as smooth.
Nevertheless, the Gianyar Police Resort continues to deploy hundreds of personnel to guard the four intersections that serve as the return traffic route from Padangbai Port. He considers that road section crucial because it connects the Karangasem, Klungkung, Gianyar, and Denpasar regions.
“Most crucial because it is also the route for residents who want to visit the beach,” he concluded.
