Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing the revitalisation of Kampung Rambutan Terminal following waterlogging around the terminal during heavy rain on Saturday (22/3). “Of course, for the medium and long term, we will carry out the revitalisation of Kampung Rambutan Terminal. This is still being discussed to anticipate similar flooding,” said the Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, while inspecting the readiness for return traffic at Kampung Rambutan Terminal, East Jakarta, on Tuesday. This revitalisation is considered important given that the terminal was built in the 1990s and has not undergone significant adjustments until now. According to Syafrin, the development of the surrounding area is one of the main considerations. Currently, the Kampung Rambutan area has been integrated with various modern transport modes such as the LRT Jabodebek and Transjakarta services. “This area will continue to be upgraded into a Transit Oriented Development area,” said Syafrin. The Transit Oriented Development (TOD) concept emphasises the integration of transport modes with residential and commercial areas, making public mobility more efficient and centralised. “The revitalisation is still in the planning stage and will be adjusted to Jakarta’s fiscal capacity,” he said. His side will also carry out several efforts to prevent similar incidents in the future. The initial step taken is a thorough cleaning of the water channels in the terminal area to ensure there are no blockages that could hinder water flow, especially during high rainfall. “The first thing is, of course, we are carrying out cleaning. We ensure that the water channels have no blockages,” said Syafrin. In addition, his side is also coordinating with the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Agency to make infrastructure adjustments, particularly regarding the potential for river overflow around the Kampung Rambutan Terminal area. This cross-agency coordination is expected to minimise the risk of flooding in the terminal area, which is one of the important transport nodes in East Jakarta. With these various steps, Syafrin hopes that in the future, Kampung Rambutan Terminal will not only be free from flooding problems but also able to transform into a modern, integrated, and comfortable transport node for the public. Previously, flooding occurred at Kampung Rambutan Bus Terminal, Ciracas Subdistrict, East Jakarta, since Saturday (21/3) around 21:00 WIB. “Flooding started around 21:00 with a height of 30 centimetres, then peaked at around 50 centimetres at 01:30. However, this morning the water has subsided,” said the Kampung Rambutan Terminal Controller, Mulyono, in Jakarta, on Sunday (22/3).
