Anti-polio drive to cost Rp 110b

JAKARTA: The government has allocated more than Rp 110 billion (US$3.8 million) to finance the third round of nationwide anti- polio vaccination drive on Wednesday.

Minister of Health Siti Fadilah Supari said here on Monday that Rp 18.8 billion, or 17 percent, of the money was being paid by the state while the rest, or Rp 91.58 billion, was being provided by foreign donors.

The foreign aid -- Rp 16.96 billion from the World Health Organisation and Rp 74.62 billion from Unicef -- would be used to cover operational costs, she added.

The minister said the latest round of the anti-polio campaign targeting more than 23.6 million children would require 32.8 million doses of vaccine.

To ensure the success of Wednesday's drive, the health ministry has established at least 281,929 vaccination centers in 71,352 villages in 440 regencies and municipalities across the country. --Antara
