Anti opium movement
Anti opium movement
From Media Indonesia
I refer to phone calls recently made to the Secretariat of the National Station of the Anti-Opium People's Movement in connection with a demonstration conducted by a group of people calling themselves GERAM, which is the abbreviation of the Anti- Marzuki People's Movement. GERAM launched a demonstration in front of the Attorney General's Office on Aug. 29, and we deem it necessary to clarify things as follows:
1. GERAM, a non-governmental organization (NGO) which specializes in measures to cope with narcotics abuse, was established on Sept. 9, 1999. In every action it takes, GERAM is always consistent in upholding the theme of drugs abuse elimination. It never enters into alliances with any social or political powers, or carries any other theme but the elimination of drugs abuse.
2. Therefore, to avoid misperception in society, in particular for members of GERAM throughout Indonesia, we would like to call on all parties wishing to establish any kind of organizations to avoid using GERAM as their abbreviation, because we have been using that name since Sept. 9, 1999.
