Anti-Corruption Commission Completes State Loss Calculation in Hajj Quota Corruption Case
Indonesia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) has announced the completion of state loss calculations relating to the alleged corruption case concerning additional hajj quotas for the organisation of the hajj pilgrimage.
“The calculation is indeed complete,” stated Asep Guntur Rahayu, Deputy for Enforcement and Execution at the KPK, at the KPK office in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Friday (27 February).
Asep stated that the point concerning state losses is considered a crucial element of the evidence. He also indicated that genuine state losses have occurred in this case.
“Of course, the result of this state loss calculation also serves as proof that we are properly handling and executing this matter,” Asep said.
“There are losses and we have also met the other statutory elements,” he added.
However, Asep declined to provide further details regarding the amount of the losses.
“I haven’t disclosed the figure yet. The amount will be communicated by the spokesperson on another occasion. The clear point is that we have received the figure,” he stated.
In this case, former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, together with his special aide Ishfah Abidal Aziz (also known as Gus Alex), has been designated as a suspect by the KPK in the alleged additional hajj quota corruption case.
The KPK has requested the Directorate General of Immigration to prevent Yaqut and Ishfah from leaving the country for six months until 12 August 2026.
During the ongoing investigation process, the KPK has conducted searches at several locations, including Yaqut’s residence in Condet, East Jakarta; hajj and umrah travel agency offices in Jakarta; the residence of a Religious Affairs Ministry civil servant in Depok; and the office of the Directorate General of Hajj and Umrah Implementation (PHU) at the Religious Affairs Ministry.
Numerous items of evidence have been seized. These include documents, electronic evidence, vehicles and property.
According to KPK’s preliminary calculations, the case is alleged to have caused state financial losses exceeding 1 trillion rupiah. The KPK is awaiting final calculations being conducted by the Finance Audit Board (BPK).
Yaqut is scheduled to attend a pre-trial hearing, which has been postponed for one week until 3 March 2026.
