'Antara' reporter robbed in minivan

JAKARTA (JP): A reporter from the Antara news agency was robbed by three unidentified men on Friday night while aboard a public minivan in the Penas area of East Jakarta, his office announced on Saturday.

According to the agency, Biqwanto Situmorang, 30, boarded the M-06A minivan at about 11 p.m. in front of the Indonesian Catholic University campus in Cawang, heading toward his home in Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta.

"The victim had just visited one of his relatives," the agency said.

When the vehicle passed through the Pondok Bambu subdistrict in the Penas area, three men -- all in their 30s -- entered the minivan, sitting near the door.

"One minute later, they took out their knives and pointed them at Biqwanto and the other passenger," the agency said.

The robbers then asked the two passengers to hand over all of their belongings. While the other passenger had nothing to give, Biqwanto handed over his wallet, which contained Rp 59,000 cash, his driver's license and press card.

With the reporter's wallet in hand, the three robbers got off in the Prumpung area. Biqwanto reported the case to the Kebon Nanas police, who have so far been unable to locate the three robbers. (bsr)
