Beijing (ANTARA) - Desca Lidya Natalia, a journalist from ANTARA News Agency stationed in Beijing, recently gave an interview to Xinhua, in which she shared her memories and work experiences during her time in China, as well as her personal impressions of the country and her hopes ahead of the Year of the Horse.

Since arriving in China on 16 August 2023, Desca has visited 26 provincial-level regions across China for news coverage and travel alike.

“There have been so many impressive things. The most unforgettable for me was visiting Lhasa, the capital of the Xizang Autonomous Region in south-west China, because of the quite unique and profound religious atmosphere of Tibetan Buddhism there,” said Desca.

According to her, the Tibetan Buddhist monasteries situated at altitudes of more than 4,000 metres in Xizang presented a special and impressive sight.

Regarding her impressions of Chinese society, Desca said she considers the Chinese people to be friendly, welcoming, and inclusive.

“Although China is extraordinarily vast and has remarkable diversity in terms of regions, ethnicities, cultures, and customs, one can see that there is a coordinated and persistent effort to pursue shared welfare and prosperity across the whole of China,” said Desca.

On the professional front, Desca noted that China possesses technological expertise, a rich cultural heritage, and a significant political role in both regional and international affairs. Furthermore, relations between the Republic of Indonesia and China have also made great strides in recent years, keeping her busy producing various news stories covering multiple aspects of China.

“Being a journalist for an Indonesian government media outlet in China means having a mandate to promote good relations between the peoples of both countries, particularly through my journalistic work. I must report on matters that can be understood by the people of both nations so that readers gain a clear and balanced perspective to understand events as well as the viewpoints of both countries,” she said.

Ahead of the Year of the Horse, the Indonesian national news agency journalist shared her hopes.

“I hope I can produce better work and help the peoples of both countries get to know each other better,” said Desca.

“Most importantly, there should be broader space for cooperation between Indonesia and China,” she added.
