Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Director of News Operations at ANTARA News Agency, Virgandhi Prayudantoro, has issued a formal apology for misquoting a statement made by State Secretary Minister (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi in a report titled “Government halts international flights due to Iran conflict”.

“We extend our deepest apologies for the misquoting of the statement made by Mr Mensesneg. We ask for forgiveness from Mr Mensesneg and all Indonesian society,” said Virgandhi in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He explained that the misquoting related to the context of the quote, which should have concerned the postponement of TNI troop deployment to Gaza.

According to him, the ANTARA news agency reporter instead quoted the State Secretary Minister’s statement regarding halting flights from Indonesia to foreign countries due to the conflict in Iran.

“This error was purely a contextual mistake in quoting the statement from the source, in this case Mr Mensesneg,” he stated.

Virgandhi emphasised that ANTARA News Agency remains committed to continuous improvement and enhancing the quality of its journalism.
