ANTARA Heritage Center Expected to Become Jakarta's Tourism Icon
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin hopes that the ANTARA Heritage Center (AHC) in Pasar Baru can become a tourism icon in Jakarta, as the site holds significant historical value for the nation. “This should become part of Jakarta’s tourism icons,” said Arifin in Jakarta on Tuesday, during an Evening Community Gathering with residents of Pasar Baru Ward held at the ANTARA Heritage Center. Arifin stated that the building, often associated with the broadcast of the 17 August 1945 proclamation of independence—which was formerly the Domei news agency office—now part of the ANTARA Heritage Center complex, remains very well maintained and serves as a witness to Indonesia’s history. Therefore, Arifin hopes that the building and ANTARA can become a tourism icon in Jakarta and serve as an alternative attraction in the capital. “The building itself was constructed in 1917. Then ANTARA was born in 1937. So, it far predates independence. May this become one of the centres for tourists visiting the Jakarta area,” he said. The Central Jakarta Mayor and his team took the opportunity to tour the AHC, located on ANTARA Street, Pasar Baru Ward, Sawah Besar Subdistrict, Central Jakarta. Arifin was also taken to one of the rooms used by ANTARA founder Adam Malik, where the original desk used by the former third Vice President of Indonesia is still present. In addition to Adam Malik’s room, Arifin also stopped by the video podcast production room before attending the Evening Community Gathering event.
