Kupang (ANTARA) - The ANTARA News Agency has distributed humanitarian aid for earthquake victims on Flores Island through the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

The handover of the donation, representing the ANTARA NTT care initiative and the LKBN ANTARA Social Responsibility Programme, was represented by the Head of the ANTARA NTT Bureau, Anwar Maga, in Kupang on Thursday evening.

The humanitarian aid, valued at tens of millions of rupiah, was received by the Junior Expert Disaster Analyst of the NTT Provincial BPBD, Ricard Pelt, at the Earthquake Emergency Response Post of the NTT Provincial BPBD in Kupang, the provincial capital.

The humanitarian aid consists of several dozen items of essential goods for residents affected by the earthquake on Flores Island, including rice, cooking oil, sugar, laundry soap, bath soap, blankets, mineral water, and other necessities.

Meanwhile, the Junior Expert Disaster Analyst of the NTT Provincial BPability, Ricard Pelt, expressed his gratitude to ANTARA for its involvement in helping the earthquake victims.

“We from the NTT BPBD express our gratitude for the support from ANTARA, to share and lighten the burden of our brothers and sisters in Flores,” he said.

He stated that the aid received from ANTARA will later be sent together with other aid already present in the NTT BPBD logistics warehouse.

“Once everything has been collected in large quantities, we will send it to Flores,” he added.

Previously, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake shook Flores on 15 August 2026. The earthquake destroyed numerous houses and buildings and caused fatalities.

According to reports from the BPBD as of 8 September, the death toll from the earthquake has reached 135 people across eight regencies in Flores.

Meanwhile, the number of injured has reached 1,105 people, with 78,669 individuals displaced.
