ANTARA CEO: Perhumas plays important role in building modern communication
Banjarmasin (ANTARA) - The CEO of Perum LKBN ANTARA, Benny Siga Butarbutar, has affirmed that the presence of the Public Relations Association (Perhumas) in various regions plays an important role in strengthening the development of modern communication, especially in facing the challenges of disinformation in the digital era.
“Even the presence of Perhumas in Banjarmasin also marks the importance of Kalimantan in the national news map, while becoming a space for collaboration to discuss developments in communication, media, journalism, and public relations practices,” said Benny at the inauguration event of the Banjarmasin Branch Board of Perhumas in Banjarmasin on Saturday.
On that occasion, Benny, who serves as the Secretary General of Perhumas, delivered a presentation combined with the Communication and Public Relations Seminar titled “Banjarmasin for Indonesia: Strategic Public Relations Collaboration in the Digital Era and Sustainability” at the Universitas Islam Kalimantan Muhammad Arsyad AL Banjari, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.
In that event, he conveyed that the massive flow of information today demands an adaptive communication approach so as not to be easily distorted by misleading information.
“If slow, it will be filled with disinformation; if not accurate, it will also be problematic. So the key is speed that is accurate,” said Benny.
He explained that this principle requires a layered verification process and consistency in managing issues, so that the information conveyed is truly relevant to the needs of society.
In addition, public communication is also expected to be able to provide enlightenment and strengthen the development narrative amid various information challenges.
He also assessed that Perhumas, as a professional organisation, has a strategic role in enhancing that capacity, given its international-scale network.
“The presence of Perhumas in the regions can drive the strengthening of more structured, credible, and relevant communication practices in line with global developments,” said Benny.
