PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM) strengthens its commitment to safeguarding national gold sovereignty through signing a Gold Sales & Purchase Agreement (GSPA) with PT Bumi Suksesindo (BSI) and PT Puncak Emas Tani Sejahtera (PETS), members of the Merdeka Group holding. The partnership is a strategic move to ensure a continuous supply of domestic gold input materials and to reinforce upstream-to-downstream supply chain integration within the country. The agreement runs for two years with a transaction volume of 6 million tonnes of gold per year. In this scheme, ANTAM acts as the buyer, while BSI and PETS act as sellers. Commercial Director of ANTAM Handi Sutanto stated that the cooperation is based on broader interests, namely safeguarding national gold sovereignty. ‘For ANTAM, gold is not merely a commodity but part of the nation’s sovereignty. ANTAM’s role is connecting mines to market, linking Indonesia’s mining outputs to pure gold owned by the people,’ Handi said. He added that through this agreement ANTAM strengthens its vision as gold sourced from Indonesian mines, refined at the country’s sole LBMA-certified refinery, and then offered back to the nation as gold that is tested and passed on through generations. Previously, ANTAM and BSI had a refining service agreement, where dore from mines is refined at ANTAM’s refining facilities. The refined output, in the form of gold and silver, is subsequently processed into granulated gold (granula) at 99.99% purity. Under the GSPA, transactions of domestically refined granulated gold are conducted in a more structured manner, reinforcing domestic upstream-to-downstream supply chain integration. Handi emphasised that supply certainty from accountable sources forms a fundamental foundation for maintaining the strength of ANTAM’s brand amid market dynamics. ‘Stable supply from clear and responsible sources strengthens ANTAM’s position as LBMA-certified gold that meets international standards, including governance and sustainability aspects. We want ANTAM gold to be ethical, safe, and easy for people to own,’ he said. He recognised that as a market leader, ANTAM often attracts public attention, but the company ensures all processes comply with governance standards and applicable regulations. ‘We view every input and public attention as positive energy for continuous improvement, in line with the spirit of wholehearted service,’ he added. Meanwhile, Albert Saputro, President Director of PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk, said the collaboration is a strategic step to ensure optimal domestic absorption of Merdeka’s gold production. ‘With a stronger production base from Tujuh Bukit and Pani Gold Mine, we require a stable and measured offtake structure. This GSPA provides production absorption certainty and strengthens our contribution to the domestic gold industry,’ Albert stated. Through this collaboration, ANTAM, together with BSI and PETS, reiterates its shared commitment to maintaining supply stability, optimising domestic refining facilities, and strengthening the sovereignty and integrity of Indonesia’s national gold industry through a robust, transparent supply chain oriented toward creating added value for Indonesia.
