Antam and Merdeka Group Agree to Strengthen the National Gold Market
PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, or Antam, is reinforcing its efforts to safeguard domestic gold supply through a strategic collaboration with domestic mining companies within the Merdeka Group. The move is realised through the signing of a Gold Sales & Purchase Agreement (GSPA) between Antam and PT Bumi Suksesindo (BSI) and PT Puncak Emas Tani Sejahtera (PETS). These two companies form part of the Merdeka Group holding.
Commercial Director Handi Sutanto said the cooperation goes beyond transactions; it carries a broader meaning in safeguarding the sovereignty of the nation’s gold resources. “For Antam, gold is not merely a commodity but part of the nation’s sovereignty,” Handi said in a press statement on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. “The role of Antam is ‘connecting mines to market’, linking Indonesia’s mined output to become refined gold owned by the people,” he added.
This collaboration is a strategic step to ensure a sustainable supply of feedstock for the domestic gold industry. Moreover, the partnership aims to strengthen the integration of the gold industry’s supply chain from upstream to downstream within the country.
Previously, Antam and BSI had a cooperation arrangement in the form of refining services. Under that scheme, mine feedstock is refined at Antam’s refining facility. The refined product of gold and silver is subsequently processed into gold bars (bullion) or granules with a purity of 99.99%. Under the new GSPA, transactions for domestically refined granulated gold are conducted in a more structured manner.
“Supply stability from a clear and responsible source strengthens Antam’s position as an LBMA-certified product that meets international standards, including governance and sustainability aspects,” he said.
“We want Antam’s gold to be virtuous gold – ethical, safe, and comfortable for the public to own,” Handi added.
He also acknowledged that as market leader, Antam often attracts public attention. However, the company ensures all business processes operate in accordance with governance standards and applicable regulations.
“We view every input and public attention as positive energy to continue continuous improvement, in line with the spirit of serving wholeheartedly,” he said.
