Answers leaked in Bali exams

JAKARTA: The Ministry of Education and Culture is committed to investigating how answers for national high school exams came to be leaked to students in Denpasar, Bali, according to a ministry official.

Antara quoted Indra Jati Sidi as saying on Wednesday that firm action would be taken if any of the ministry's employees were found to be involved.

He confirmed that answers to Monday's examinations on mathematics and civics had been leaked.

He said the ministry had done its best to prevent such leaks, adding that the culprits had shown a "disrespect for education".

The head of the ministry's Bali office, Beratha Subawa, said the exams would be repeated on Friday and that police had begun an investigation into the matter, which was first reported by the Bali Post.

Meanwhile, Indra Jati said that 80 percent of students in the Liquica regency of East Timor sat their exams as scheduled. The regency was the site of an alleged massacre early in April.
