Another Victim of KMP Virgo Found Inside Ship Hull

The joint SAR team has once again discovered one victim of the KMP Virgo Transport 8 on Monday (21/09/2026). The victim was successfully evacuated from within the hull of the ship, which sank in the Java Sea waters.

The Head of Basarnas, M Syafii, stated that all SAR personnel will continue their efforts to search for victims still believed to be inside the vessel. He noted that the search operation, involving divers from the Basarnas Special Group (BSG), is ongoing.

“We will not stop. Every discovery is part of our effort to provide certainty to the families,” he said in a statement on Monday.

He explained that the victim was found by the BSG diving team at approximately 14:24 WITA during a sweep inside the ship. The victim was subsequently evacuated for medical treatment and further identification processes.

According to Syafii, the SAR operation is still being carried out with the involvement of joint elements, including the BSG diving team, to sweep the interior of the KM Virgo Transport 8. “The team will continue to conduct the search to the maximum extent, while certainly prioritising the safety of the divers,” he said.

Previously, the BSG team had also evacuated two victims from inside KMP Virgo Transport 8 on Monday morning. With this additional discovery, a total of three victims have been found today.

Based on the latest data, out of a total of 243 people on the ship’s manifest, 121 people have been found. 108 individuals were found safe, while 13 people have been confirmed dead. Meanwhile, 122 people remain missing and are still being searched for.
