Another Under-Capitalised Bank Closes, This Time in Padang
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has revoked the licence of PT BPR Sungai Rumbai, located at Jalan Lintas Sumatera, Sungai Rumbai, Sungai Rumbai District, Dharmasraya Regency, West Sumatra Province. This is outlined in OJK Commissioner Board Member Decision No. KEP-30/D.03/2026 dated 7 April 2026 regarding the Revocation of the Business Licence of PT Bank Perkreditan Rakyat Sungai Rumbai.
The revocation of PT BPR Sungai Rumbai’s business licence is part of OJK’s supervisory actions to continuously strengthen the banking industry and maintain public trust.
On 6 March 2025, OJK designated PT BPR Sungai Rumbai as a Bank Under Rehabilitation (BDP) because it had a Minimum Capital Adequacy Ratio (KPMM) below 12%. Subsequently, on 4 March 2026, OJK designated PT BPR Sungai Rumbai as a Bank Under Resolution (BDR), considering that OJK had provided sufficient time to the management and shareholders of PT BPR Sungai Rumbai to undertake rehabilitation efforts, particularly in addressing capital and liquidity problems as regulated in Financial Services Authority Regulation (POJK) No. 28 of 2023 dated 29 December 2023 on the Designation of Status and Follow-Up Supervision of Rural Banks and Sharia Rural Banks. However, the management and shareholders of PT BPR Sungai Rumbai were unable to rehabilitate the bank’s condition.
Then, based on the Decision of the Commissioner Board Member of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) No. 52/ADK3/2026 dated 26 March 2026 on the Handling Method for Bank Under Resolution PT Bank Perkreditan Rakyat Sungai Rumbai, LPS determined the handling method for BDR PT BPR Sungai Rumbai through liquidation and requested OJK to revoke the business licence of PT BPR Sungai Rumbai. In response to LPS’s request, OJK, based on Article 19 of the aforementioned POJK, revoked the business licence of PT BPR Sungai Rumbai.
With this revocation of the business licence, LPS will carry out its guarantee function and conduct the liquidation process in accordance with Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 24 of 2004 on the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation and Law No. 4 of 2023 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector.
OJK urges customers of PT BPR Sungai Rumbai to remain calm, as public funds in banking, including rural banks, are guaranteed by LPS in accordance with applicable provisions.
