Another student losses life in brawl
JAKARTA (JP): Another high school student lost his life on Saturday during a street brawl between his gang and another student group in front of Lebak Bulus bus terminal in South Jakarta.
Eko Kurniawan, 17, of state-run SMU 46 in Cirendeu, Ciputat, died with severe head wounds and stab wounds to his body in the after-school brawl.
Eko is the fourth student killed in street fights in the capital in the past two weeks.
City police spokesman Lt. Col. Zainuri Lubis said on Sunday that local police were still looking for the suspected murderers, who were strongly believed to be students from a rival school.
The officer, however refused to name the school.
Police investigation revealed that the clash occurred after the bus Eko and 50 classmates were traveling on was stoned by other students near the terminal.
Being challenged, Eko and his friends got off the bus and chased the other group, their classmate Dimas Satryo told police.
"But the students from the rival school outnumbered and immediately surrounded my friends," Dimas said.
Officer Lubis said many people indeed witnessed the killing of Eko, but none of them were unable to disperse the brawl.(emf)
