Another stabbing incident reported in the Tomang area, West Jakarta
Tomang Utara I Street in the Grogol Petamburan sub-district, West Jakarta, saw a stabbing on Wednesday night around 22:00 WIB. The incident went viral on social media after a video showed the victim lying bleeding. The head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the Grogol Petamburan Police Sector, AKP Alexander Tengbunan, confirmed the incident and said it was not a mugging as had been widely discussed. ‘There was indeed a stabbing, but not a robbery. It appears to be a personal matter, suspected romantic entanglement. The alleged perpetrator is the husband of the victim’s coworker,’ he told ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday. Initially, the victim was sleeping; the suspected perpetrator and an associate approached and attacked him with a sharp weapon. ‘The chronology: the victim was startled; he was resting when two people arrived and immediately assaulted him. They left behind evidence—a celurit, a curved blade—and, if I recall correctly, a sweater as well,’ he said. To date, the victim remains in intensive care due to stab wounds to the arm and head. ‘The injuries I saw last night were to the arm and head. They are quite severe. The victim is still conscious and communicative, but being treated for the injuries,’ he added. The police have identified the suspects and are pursuing them. ‘The suspects have been identified. It will take time because this has gone viral; the perpetrators are becoming more cautious,’ he added.
