Another Hajji Pilgrim from Brebes Dies in the Holy Land
A hajji pilgrim from Brebes Regency, Central Java, has died in the Holy Land. The deceased, identified as Sumeri, aged 72, from Jipang Village, Bantarkawung District, Brebes Regency, died on Friday, 23 May 2026 at 20:15 Saudi Arabia Standard Time (SAST).
Sumeri’s death was confirmed by Azmi Asmuni Majid, Head of Regional Hajj Officers for Brebes Regency, in an official statement to Media Indonesia on Saturday evening, 23 June 2026.
“Mr Sumeri died after falling in a bathroom and was rushed to King Faisal Hospital Mecca. The hospital subsequently confirmed his death,” said Azmi Asmuni.
Azmi Asmuni explained that health service officers from Sector 9, Edi Wantoro, and general service officers, Poniran, worked together with the Indonesian Hajj Health Personnel team and the Hajj Implementation Organisation to carry out evacuation and first aid following the incident. They immediately coordinated with the Indonesian Hajj Health Clinic staff and transported him to the hospital.
“However, despite maximum efforts that were undertaken, it appears that it was God’s will that he was called to Him,” said Azmi Majid.
According to Azmi Majid, the deceased pilgrim had travelled with his wife. The authorities provided psychological support to strengthen his wife’s resolve, and the family back home was contacted to pray and accept God’s will.
“The deceased had a history of heart disease several years before departure. This was evident from his medical records,” explained Asmuni Majid.
Earlier, news of loss came from the Holy Land. The Regional Hajj Officers for Brebes Regency, Central Java, confirmed the death of another hajji pilgrim from Brebes Regency on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.
The deceased pilgrim was identified as Akhmad Nurokhman bin Zaeni, aged 65, from Keboledan Village, Wanasari District, Brebes Regency. The deceased was a member of the hajj contingent belonging to KBIHU Multazam Group 8.
