Another AIDS sufferer in Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): Another Jakartan has been diagnosed as suffering from the Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), the director general of the Communicable Disease Control and Environmental Health department of the Health Ministry, Hadi Abednego said.

The patient is one of two people infected with AIDS diagnosed recently by officials of the directorate general, Hadi said, adding that the other patient is living in Irian Jaya.

Hadi told Antara on Friday that with the diagnosis of the new patient, Jakarta now has 41 AIDS sufferers and 52 people tested positive with Human Immuno-deficiency Virus, which causes AIDS.

So far there have been 280 people tested HIV positive throughout the country but there is no data on the total number of AIDS sufferers. (mas)
