Anonymous leaflet in Ujungpandang

UJUNGPANDANG, South Sulawesi: Maj. Gen. Agum Gumelar, chief of Wirabuana military command overseeing Sulawesi, called on the public over the weekend to ignore anonymous leaflets that urged people to boycott next month's election.

The authorities had tracked down people they suspected of printing and distributing the leaflets, he told journalists at a "coffee morning" session he hosted.

He said the authorities were collecting more concrete evidence to catch the suspects.

"We don't want to act against any suspect without sufficient evidence," he said.

Similar leaflets have also been circulated in Palu in Central Sulawesi, Bandung, Jakarta and Bogor. (31/37)
