Anomaly Occurs Again: KPK Auction Items Not Redeemed Despite High Sale Price
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) auctioned confiscated items from corruption cases, including two ordinary mobile phones (HP), which sold for nearly Rp60 million. However, the two sold phones were not redeemed by the winner. The KPK views this as an anomalous phenomenon, not occurring just once in the auction of confiscated corruption case items.
The KPK held an online auction of confiscated items on Wednesday (11/3). There were dozens of types of items auctioned, from houses, apartments, luxury bags, cars, to mobile phones. The KPK stated that 15 lots of items were successfully sold. The total revenue from this auction was Rp10.9 billion.
“The successfully sold item lots consisted of 11 lots of movable goods such as cars, motorcycles, electronic devices, and various other equipment. Then, for 4 lots of immovable goods, namely in the form of land and buildings. The total value of the sold auction items for the March 2026 period reached Rp10.9 billion,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo, as quoted on Monday (16/3).
The auction proceeds will be deposited into the state treasury. This is part of efforts to recover assets from corruption cases.
Besides the regular auction, there was an unexpected occurrence in the auction. A package containing two Oppo HP units with a limit price of Rp75,000 sold for Rp59.7 million.
“Indeed, there is an anomaly related to the high value of the auction winner,” said the Director of Asset Tracking, Evidence Management, and Execution (Labuksi) of the KPK, Mungki Hadipratikto.
Anomaly Not Just Once
Mungki mentioned that the oddity of the price for an item auctioned by the KPK has happened before. At that time, according to him, the KPK once had a winner for a silk batik auction where the initial limit was Rp5,000, and the final bid reached Rp5 million.
“This has happened once in a previous auction, namely an item in the form of a silk batik shirt with a limit value of Rp5,000 and a winner with a value of Rp5 million,” said Mungki.
However, the auction winner did not pay the bid from the auction process, so the silk batik was re-auctioned. In the re-auction, the silk batik sold for Rp2.5 million.
“The auction winner at that time defaulted, did not pay the remaining auction costs, so it was re-auctioned and finally the next auction sold at Rp2.5 million and paid by the auction winner. So this is the second time this has happened,” explained Mungki.
2 HP from KPK Auction Not Redeemed by Winner
The two mobile phone units that sold for Rp59.7 million in the KPK auction were not redeemed by the winning party. The deposit money from the winner was forfeited and handed over by the KPK to the state treasury.
“Up to the payment deadline on 25 March 2026, the party did not pay the remaining payment, so it is considered a default, thus the deposited guarantee money will be deposited into the state treasury,” said Mungki Hadipratikto to reporters on Monday (30/3).
Mungki said this was done in accordance with the Minister of Finance’s regulations regarding the auction mechanism. The two HP units will be re-auctioned on the next auction schedule.
“In accordance with the Minister of Finance’s regulations on auctions, sanctions for defaulting winning parties are not yet regulated. The regulated sanction is only the deposit of the guarantee money. So the deposited guarantee money is forfeited and becomes non-tax state revenue. The item will be re-auctioned on the next opportunity,” clarified Mungki.
