Annual Inflation Reaches 3.28 Per Cent in September 2026
The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has announced that the annual inflation rate in Indonesia reached 3.28 per cent in September 2026. The primary contributors to this inflation were the food group, followed by transportation and personal care expenditures, such as gold and jewellery.
“In September 2026, there was a month-to-month (mtm) inflation of 0.30 per cent, and a year-to-date (ytd) inflation of 2.17 per cent. On a year-on-year (yoy) basis, inflation stood at 3.28 per cent, representing an increase in the consumer price index from 108.74 in August 2026 to 112.31 in September 2026,” stated Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, during a press conference at the BPS Building, Jakarta, on Thursday (1/10/2026).
Ateng explained that, based on expenditure groups, inflation in September 2026 was mainly driven by three categories. First, the food, beverages, and tobacco group recorded an inflation rate of 4.37 per cent, contributing 1.28 per cent to the overall inflation.
“The commodities with the largest inflationary contribution within this group were primarily fresh fish, broiler chicken, bird’s eye chilli, rice, cooking oil, Machine-Rolled Clove Cigarettes (SKM), and beef,” he said.
Secondly, the transportation expenditure group experienced an inflation rate of 4.84 per cent in September 2026. This group contributed 0.58 per cent to the inflation for that month.
“Within this group, the inflationary contribution was mainly driven by petrol, airfares, lubricants or engine oil, motorcycles, maintenance or servicing, and cars,” he added.
