The Jakarta Provincial Government has temporarily cancelled the car free day (CFD) on Jalan HR Rasuna Said this Sunday morning. This policy was implemented after an evaluation of the initial CFD implementation in the area the previous week.

The Jakarta Provincial Government will temporarily suspend the CFD on Rasuna Said on Sunday, 17 May 2026. The CFD on Jalan Rasuna Said is planned to resume in June 2026, every Sunday from 05:30-09:00 WIB.

Head of the Jakarta Transportation Department, Syafrin Liputo, said that the implementation of the CFD on Jalan Rasuna Said on 10 May left several points for evaluation. These include the lack of turning points on the east and west sides of the corridor, the absence of Transjakarta lane dividers, and continued illegal parking in several areas.

In addition, the arrangement of MSMEs needs to be improved because the activities of traders have expanded onto the road surface. Several road work projects on alternative routes are also still causing congestion.

The department also noted that there were differences in road levels after the dismantling of the monorail pillars and a build-up of public activity in the Plaza Festival area, causing runners and cyclists to use Transjakarta bus lanes.

Syafrin ensured that all these obstacles would be followed up with a cross-agency CFD working team. The Jakarta Provincial Government is also preparing a legal basis for the implementation of HBKB (Hari Bebas Kendaraan Bermotor - Car-Free Day) on Jalan HR Rasuna Said.

“Improvements to supporting facilities and the regulation of public activities will be carried out so that the implementation of HBKB on Rasuna Said can run more safely, comfortably and orderly,” said Syafrin in a statement, Saturday (16/5).

Despite the shortcomings, Syafrin said that the evaluation results showed that the CFD on Jalan Rasuna Said provided benefits to the community, especially as an alternative space for sports and public spaces in the city.

“The HBKB on Jalan HR Rasuna Said adds an alternative space for sports and public spaces for the community. The results of air quality measurements around the location during the implementation of HBKB were also recorded as being better than working days,” said Syafrin.

According to him, the presence of the CFD on Rasuna Said also helped reduce congestion in the Sudirman-Thamrin area. Based on data from the Jakarta Transportation Department, the number of visitors to the provincial-level CFD on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin decreased from 29,256 people on 3 May 2026 to 13,759 people on 10 May 2026, or a decrease of about 52.97%.

“This condition shows that the HBKB on HR Rasuna Said can break up the concentration of crowds in Sudirman-Thamrin so that community activities are more dispersed,” he added.
