Announcement! Iran Announces Alternative Route to Strait of Hormuz, With This Danger

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Iran announced an alternative route on Thursday (9/4/2026) for ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran justified this due to the very high risk of sea mines in the main zone of this vital waterway.

This announcement came after Iran agreed to temporarily reopen the strait as part of a two-week ceasefire. The Strait of Hormuz is crucial for global energy as it usually handles one-fifth of the world’s oil.

“All ships intending to cross the Strait of Hormuz are hereby notified that to comply with maritime safety principles and to be protected from possible collisions with sea mines…,” stated the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in a statement quoted by local media.

“They must take the alternative route for traffic in the Strait of Hormuz,” it said.

The statement also shared instructions for the alternative entry and exit routes through the strait.

Previously, the United States (US) and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire on Tuesday night to Wednesday, less than an hour before the deadline set by President Donald Trump to destroy the Islamic Republic if it did not submit to his demands for an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Tehran had effectively blocked the main shipping lane since early March, causing global energy prices to soar.
