Announcement! Indonesian Citizens Can Use QRIS in China Starting 30 April 2026
Bank Indonesia (BI) is accelerating the expansion of cross-border QRIS services in China. Initially targeted for early May 2026, it will now be available from 30 April 2026. “China on 30 April can launch,” said BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta during an online press conference following the board of governors’ meeting on Wednesday (22/4/2026). BI has already conducted trials of QRIS usage in China, with transaction volumes reaching 1.64 million and a value equivalent to Rp 556 billion. The use of QRIS in China will involve 24 providers from Indonesia, comprising 16 banks and 8 non-bank institutions, while China will have 19 providers. “So basically, from both technical and business aspects, it is ready to be implemented, so on the 30th we will cut the ribbon,” Filianingsih stated. This expansion of QRIS in China will add to the list of countries where Indonesians can make cashless transactions. Before China, BI officially launched QRIS usage in South Korea on 1 April 2026. Previously, it was already available in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan.
