Announcement! From 20 October, SPHP Rice Is No More — Here Is Its Replacement
Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) has announced that Stabilisasi Pasokan dan Harga Pangan (SPHP) rice will be given a new name: Beras Kita. The new packaging will be launched on 20 October 2026.
Zulhas said the change coincides with a packaging refresh. The SPHP identity will not be removed entirely, but will remain on the packaging as a description of the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation programme.
“This new packaging will be launched soon. SPHP is being renamed Beras Kita,” Zulhas said at a press conference at his office in Jakarta on Monday (7/9/2026).
In the new packaging, the words ‘Beras Kita Medium’ serve as the main identity, dominated by white and blue. The lower part of the pack features an illustration of rice paddies, whilst the logos of Bulog, the National Food Agency and the Coordinating Ministry for Food remain at the top.
The SPHP text has been made smaller and placed below the Beras Kita name. The SPHP programme thus remains part of the product’s identity, but the name highlighted to consumers is Beras Kita.
Zulhas said he immediately approved the design and colours of the new packaging.
“Well, isn’t it nice? I approved the colour straight away. I agreed at once — the colours are excellent, aren’t they? These are the colours of victory,” he said.
Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal explained that the name Beras Kita was chosen to align its identity with other government food products.
“Why use the name Beras Kita? Because government products use the word ‘kita’ (our). We have Gula Manis Kita, Minyakita, and now rice is using the name Beras Kita,” Rizal said after the press conference.
“The meaning of ‘kita’ is a prosperous Indonesian family. So Beras Kita is rice for a prosperous Indonesian family,” he said.
Rizal confirmed that the SPHP description will remain on the new packaging. “However, the words SPHP will still appear at the bottom — Stabilisasi Pasokan dan Harga Pangan — but made smaller,” he said.
According to him, the packaging change is intended to make government rice more competitive with private products on the market.
“The first aim of this change is to be able to compete with private products. With this new packaging, the appearance is more eye-catching and better able to compete with private products,” he said.
In addition to medium rice, there will be a Beras Kita Premium variant. However, the government subsidy will only apply to medium rice under the SPHP scheme.
No Withdrawal of Old Stock
The old SPHP packaging will continue to be used until existing stocks run out. Bulog will not withdraw them abruptly from the market.
“Still. That’s why it must be distributed as quickly as possible. So that we can then start producing the new packaging like this,” Rizal said.
The launch of Beras Kita comes as the government decides to increase the SPHP allocation by 1 million tonnes. The addition is intended to safeguard supply and suppress rice prices heading into the lean season.
Bulog had previously requested an additional 400,000 tonnes, but the government approved an increase of up to 1 million tonnes.
“For SPHP rice, we initially requested an additional 400,000 tonnes to anticipate future conditions. But the government supported us with 1 million tonnes,” he said.
The additional allocation will be used to cover needs until early 2027, ahead of the harvest season expected in March.
To date, distribution of SPHP rice from the initial allocation of 828,000 tonnes has reached 92%. Bulog said around 80,000 tonnes remain, targeted for immediate distribution.
The additional 1 million tonnes will be distributed through various channels, including Rumah Pangan Kita (RPK) and the Red and White Village/Neighbourhood Cooperatives (KDKMP).
“All of it — there are 10 channels altogether, including RPK and KDKMP,” Rizal concluded.
