Announced by Prabowo in Gorontalo, Indonesian Fishermen Prepare for a Feast

Gorontalo, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto has revealed plans to build 1,386 Red and White Fishermen Villages this year. In addition, 1,582 fishing vessels will be constructed to catch fish. Prabowo made this announcement during an inspection of the Red and White Fishermen Village (KNMP) in South Leato, Gorontalo, on Saturday (9/5/2026).

“The fishermen who have made great contributions, and we want to strengthen the role of our fishermen. This year, we will build and inaugurate fishing villages and hamlets like this, a total of 1,386,” said Prabowo during his speech.

“And next year, we will build more—how many next year? 1,000. And so on, every year 1,000, 1,000, 1,000. Across all of Indonesia, we have 12,000 fishing villages; this is a big task,” he added.

Prabowo committed to this development to improve the welfare of the community, even though some parties mock it.

“Prabowo this, Prabowo that, but I have no doubts for our people; I have no doubts. We are on the right path; our people must prosper. I want our fishermen to prosper; I want them to smile every day because their income is good,” he said.

Not only that, Prabowo also discussed the construction of 1,582 fishing vessels, which will be distributed to the community.

“We will start building 1,582 fishing vessels this year; later, we will help, we will distribute those vessels,” he said.

Coastal communities can form cooperatives to receive the vessel distribution. Each cooperative can consist of 30 fishermen to obtain one vessel or through other calculation schemes.

“We don’t want foreign vessels taking fish from our seas; we want our people to take them,” said Prabowo.
