'Announce parking probe results': City Council
JAKARTA (JP): The municipal administration has yet to announce
the results of the investigation into the embezzlement of parking
fees.
"The City Council insists that the administration reveal the
results of the investigation into alleged parking fee
embezzlement to the city council and the public because the
administration has suffered losses of billions of rupiah in
parking revenue," H. Helmy AR. Said, the chairman of City
Council's Commission C told reporters yesterday.
Last week Governor Surjadi Soedirdja ordered the city's
officials in charge of public affairs to investigate allegations
of embezzlement at the city's parking authority, BP Parkir.
Several BP Parkir officials are believed to have embezzled a
hefty amount of the parking fees paid monthly to the municipal
administration by 147 companies.
The amount of money collected from the companies as reported
by BP Parkir was much smaller than the amount paid by the
companies as recorded on their receipts.
"The government should publicly announce the results of this
probe to the public, so that we will be able to formulate the
best method for managing parking systems in the city," Ratih
Ratna Purnami, a member of the City Council's Commission D, said.
