Announce names of House absentees!

The photographs of vacant seats in the meeting room of the
House of Representatives (DPR) published by Kompas (Dec. 2) and
the same photos carried in other newspapers do not seem to have
changed the habit of absenteeism among lazy legislators.

The latest Kompas photo has further affirmed the public
conviction that the Rp 10 million in extra monthly allowances per
legislator will not increase their performance. This allowance
should have been more than enough to make them work harder.

With this phenomenon, it is only proper for the public to be
informed of those DPR members who are frequently absent from
House plenary sessions. The media should announce the names of
absentees every time legislators meet.

In this way, people can evaluate the extent to which
legislators observe discipline and question how they represent
their commitments to society.
