Jakarta, VIVA – The President Director and CEO of PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR), Anindya Bakrie, is convinced that the government could achieve budget efficiency or savings of up to US$5 billion, or approximately Rp 85.35 trillion, if buses and trucks are electrified based on electricity.

He conveyed this during the inauguration of the electric commercial vehicle assembly plant owned by PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk (VKTR) in Magelang, Central Java, by President Prabowo Subianto.

“If all buses and trucks are electrified into electric vehicles, this could save Indonesia around US$5 billion per year,” said Anindya on Thursday, 9 April 2026.

He detailed that the savings would come, among other things, from reducing subsidies for fuel oil (BBM), which has previously come from the state budget (APBN). Moreover, the total number of buses operating in Indonesia currently stands at around 280,000 units, and trucks at about 6.5 million units.

“And in my view, that number is very large. Because buses are vehicles used en masse, and they can save on BBM as well as create decarbonisation,” he stated.

Previously, Anindya had also outlined the basic idea behind the formation of PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk (VKTR), as a pioneer in transport electrification focusing on the development of electric commercial vehicles (EV) such as buses and trucks.

“Mr President, from the beginning, VKTR or what we call Vector, the basic idea has two aspects, Mr President. The first is decarbonisation. How to move towards net zero emissions by 2060 or faster. And the second is economic independence,” said Anindya.

He added that these two ideas naturally also encompass the agenda of energy security and curbing fuel oil imports. For VKTR, Anindya emphasised that the agenda of electric vehicle (EV) electrification is no longer a choice, but a strategic necessity for Indonesia.

“Mr President always teaches us that in the history of development, crises often become opportunities for making great leaps,” said Anindya.

He explained that VKTR, or Vector—which in physics means magnitude and direction—is believed by his side to also have a large scale for Indonesia with its natural resources, its people, and its direction towards that independence goal.
