YOGYAKARTA: In cooperation with the Yogyakarta Wild Animal
Rescue Center (PPSJ) and the Association of Indonesian
Photographers (PFI), Melia Purosani Hotel is holding a photo
exhibition of animal rescues.
Titled Long Call, the exhibition was officially
opened on Friday evening by the wife of the Yogyakarta governor,
Sultana GKR Hemas. Located in the hotel's mezzanine area, the
exhibition will run until April 15.
Some 50 photos, mostly showing animal rescues by PPSJ, are
displayed at the exhibition. Among the photos on display are
pictures of the Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Reintroduction Project in
Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, photos of wild animals being
seized from their owners, and photos showing the release of
animals into their natural habitat.
Ferry Ardianto of the PPSJ said the exhibition was a reminder
to people of the importance of wildlife, saying the loss of
species could damage the ecosystem and change the balance in
nature.
"Many people do not seem to understand this," Ferry said.
The chairman of the exhibition's organizing committee, Slamet
Susanto, said the exhibition would travel to 12 other major
cities, including Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Malang, Surabaya,
Denpasar, Balikpapan, Manado, Medan, Lampung and Pontianak. -- JP
