Anies Urges Andrie Yunus Case to Be Processed in General Court
Jakarta - Former Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan is urging that the case of the alleged acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus be processed through the general court. He considers this step important to guarantee transparency while opening opportunities to reveal the intellectual actors behind the incident. According to Anies, the handling of various violence cases has often stopped at the field perpetrators or the lowest-level parties. However, he said, the main actors or those giving orders are rarely touched by legal processes. “Don’t let it repeat like the incidents that often happen. Those who get punished are always the most downstream perpetrators. The upstream ones never, very rarely,” he assessed. He hopes that through the general court mechanism, the legal process can run more openly, thus allowing investigation up to the parties giving the orders. “With the court in the general court, hopefully it will provide a greater opportunity for that,” he said. He assessed that the incident is an attack on individuals who have been actively voicing issues of democratic regression. “When this incident happens, it’s not an ordinary crime; from the beginning, this is not an ordinary crime. And it’s impossible to be carried out by just 1-2 people sporadically,” he stated. He also asked law enforcement officials to thoroughly investigate the case, including revealing the parties behind the orders for the action. “This incident must be investigated up to those who gave the orders. And it must be elaborated why there was that order, why there was that order, why there was that task,” Anies said. In its official statement on Wednesday (18/3/2026), the coalition strongly condemned the violent act allegedly carried out by four TNI members.
