Anies: The Public Needs Certainty, Not Problems Sugar-Coated

Anies Baswedan: The former Governor of DKI Jakarta, said that in the current conditions the public and the market need certainty, not problems that are hidden. This was conveyed by Anies regarding the current economic situation which he believes is not in good shape. ‘In a situation like this, the one thing that the market and the public need most is certainty. Not false calm, not problems sugar-coated, but certainty that arises from transparency and honesty, from a clear direction, from a government that knows where this nation is being taken,’ he said on his Instagram account @aniesbaswedan, Wednesday (20 May 2026). Kompas.com has obtained confirmation from Anies’ team regarding the quotation of the uploaded video. ‘Data are selectively shown, only the good are displayed, the bad are hidden,’ he said. In fact, according to Anies, the rupiah has fallen to an all-time low, causing prices to rise. He also touched on shrinking job opportunities, weakening purchasing power, and the impact on the livelihoods of many. ‘Even one heavy test is hard; when several come at once, the burden multiplies,’ Anies added. Anies also highlighted comments by state officials that are considered to look flippant as they observe the crisis before their eyes.
