Jakarta – Former 2024 presidential candidate Anies Baswedan has assessed that the transformation of the civic movement Gerakan Rakyat into a political party still requires a lengthy process.

“Yes, the journey still lies ahead,” said Anies when attending the first anniversary celebration of Gerakan Rakyat on Friday (27 February 2026).

Anies made this statement when asked for his views on Gerakan Rakyat’s decision to transform into a political party, as well as the possibility of him joining as a party member.

“I have already answered that,” said the former Jakarta governor.

Meanwhile, General Chair of Partai Gerakan Rakyat Sahrin Hamid stated that the party’s current leadership structure remains limited and is not yet fully formed.

“Regarding structure, we have not yet reached the point where… because we only have what we call territorial structure. So far we only have the Central Board of Leadership, Regional Board of Leadership, District Board of Leadership, and Branch Board of Leadership or Board of Leadership at the sub-district level,” said Sahrin.

“So we have not yet developed any other structures. We have only prepared the structure for reporting to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, for example,” said Sahrin.

According to him, only two elements have been prepared at the central level so far.

“So we only have the Central Board of Leadership. The Central Board of Leadership, with nothing else yet, plus the Party Court. Only two structural elements have been proposed. Because these two are required and mandated by law. Therefore, what we have only assembled so far is the Central Board of Leadership and the Party Court. That is two,” said Sahrin.

Leader of the Gerakan Rakyat National Conference Session Muhammad Ridwan stated that the decision was the result of consensus deliberation of all conference participants representing the Regional Board of Leadership from all provinces in Indonesia.

“Third, we mandate the newly-elected General Chair of Partai Gerakan Rakyat, Sahrin Hamid, to establish, complete, and perfect the organisational structure of Partai Gerakan Rakyat across all regions of the Indonesian Republic in accordance with the vision, mission, principles, and character of Gerakan Rakyat,” said Ridwan.

Ridwan affirmed that all conference decisions have been approved and signed in the minutes.

“Therefore, Sahrin Hamid is officially appointed as Chair of Partai Gerakan Rakyat,” he said.
