Anies and Novel Baswedan Visit Andrie KontraS, Reveal Latest Condition
Anies Baswedan visited Andrie Yunus, a KontraS human rights activist, who became a victim of an acid attack by unknown assailants at RSCM in Central Jakarta. Anies disclosed Andrie’s current condition.
Anies visited Andrie together with former KPK investigator Novel Baswedan. Anies stated that Andrie remained in isolation and could not be visited directly by others.
“Earlier, we met with his parents and younger sibling. Since Andrie is still in the recovery process, in isolation. He cannot interact with anyone except the medical team, because of the very high risk of infection. So we met with his parents,” Anies told journalists after visiting Andrie at RSCM in Central Jakarta, Saturday (14 March 2026).
Anies said the family was devastated by what Andrie had experienced. He mentioned that he had conveyed a message to Andrie’s parents that many people were offering support to their son.
“We conveyed sympathy from the broader public, which they also feel. They feel the support of the public, the people’s hearts, and KontraS colleagues, which makes Andrie’s parents feel comfortable being here,” said Anies.
“Because of the extraordinary support from KontraS friends. They said it makes them feel that in this heavy situation, it is alleviated,” he added.
Anies stated that Andrie was currently conscious. He also conveyed that he had sent a written message to Andrie to give him encouragement.
“Yes, he is conscious. But he cannot meet (anyone) because he cannot meet anyone. So the family cannot meet him either since the operation. (The letter) is just a message to be read to Andri, because we cannot speak directly,” he concluded.
For context, the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus is now being handled by the police. The incident has become a police priority, and to date, police are still pursuing the perpetrator.
“This case is a priority and focus of National Police Headquarters and Jakarta Metro Police,” said Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Chief Brigadier General Budi Hermanto to journalists, Saturday (14 March).
Budi said his team was also still conducting analysis from CCTV footage at the incident location. The analysis is part of the investigation with scientific investigation methods to identify the perpetrator.
“Investigation from Central Jakarta Police and the Criminal Investigation Directorate of Jakarta Metro Police is currently conducting investigation with scientific investigation methods to find the perpetrator,” he said.
In CCTV footage that circulated, it initially appeared the alleged perpetrator was two men on a motorcycle passing through the location. They turned their motorcycle around until they came face-to-face with the victim.
The victim, who was riding a motorcycle at the time, was splashed with acid by the perpetrator. The victim immediately felt burning pain and dropped his motorcycle on the roadside, screaming hysterically.
“Aah… aah… aah…. burning… burning… burning. Acid… acid. Oh God help, acid… acid… acid,” screamed the victim, as seen in CCTV footage on Friday (13 March).
The victim immediately removed his clothes. His shirt was torn and his body was blistered from the acid splash.
The victim’s screams immediately drew residents’ attention. Residents came to the victim.
“LBH, yes? LBH?” asked a resident.
“KontraS,” replied the victim.
