Angry son nearly severs mother's ear

JAKARTA (JP): Humiliated and angered by his mother's beatings, a teenager took a kitchen knife and slashed his mother's left ear until it nearly came off at their residence in the village of Tambun, Bekasi.

Bekasi Police officer Second. Insp. Adri said the son, 17-year old Bambang, was currently at large.

The injured woman, Rumai, 48, a mother of four children, was mad with Bambang as he had failed to be promoted at school.

On Wednesday night, Rumai stripped her son of his clothes and started to beat him for failing in his class. She kept on screaming at him.

Bambang got angry, took a kitchen knife and struck his mother's left ear, and right eyebrow, Adri said, quoting what Rumai's husband, Zaenal, 49, had told police.

Bambang then took off. Rumai's another son, Deny Saputra, returned home from college and found his mother bleeding profusely, immediately took her to Medika Cibitung Hospital.

"We are still trying to find the boy", Adri added. (ylt)
