Angkringan The Beji: A Hidden Culinary Gem with Riverside Views in Klungkung
Angkringan The Beji is situated between the main road and the Bubuh River, in Banjarangkan Village, Klungkung, Bali. In addition to its hidden location on a path leading to the Bubuh River, this place is also special because it is the only tourist attraction owned by the Banjarangkan Village Government.
This place is located across from the Japanese Cave cultural heritage site in Klungkung. From the main road, the sign for the eatery does not reveal the atmosphere inside. Visitors must venture in and descend dozens of steps to enjoy the green and cool scenery.
Here, visitors can enjoy views of the river and the open nature. It’s a great place to hang out or have a date. Enjoy coffee with fried bananas, or something more substantial like grilled fish and chicken. There are also indoor facilities for business meetings or enjoying time with family.
On a bright Saturday morning (May 16, 2026), as employees were preparing to open the eatery, detikBali met the person behind the creation of Angkringan The Beji. He is Anak Agung Gde Indrawan Diputra, the village head of Banjarangkan. He said that this eatery was one of his political promises during his candidacy in the village head election.
“This has been part of my vision and mission. In the past, this place was a path full of bushes. Often hanging out here, I thought about how this place could become a culinary tourist spot,” Indrawan told detikBali.
In the first year, he began cleaning the area that was a path for villagers to fetch holy water. That is why he named the place Angkringan The Beji. Beji means holy spring.
“This land belongs to the Pura Mas Ayu Banjarangkan temple. So there is a holy spring here. In addition, this place is also used by residents to bathe in the Bubuh River. This is the only potential we have. Because there is not a single tourist spot in Banjarangkan Village,” said Indrawan.
Angkringan The Beji is managed by the Banjarangkan Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes). Since its opening at the end of 2024, this village-owned business has been able to generate a gross profit of around IDR 360 million per year.
“The initial capital investment, from the initial arrangement to the present, is around IDR 400 million,” added Indrawan.
The effort to transform a bushy location into a popular and profitable tourist spot is a source of pride for Indrawan, especially in the midst of the lack of natural resources in Banjarangkan Village.
Indrawan, who previously worked in the tourism business, explained his desire to develop Angkringan The Beji even further. He admitted that there are still many things that need to be developed. Since its opening, many things have been changed and improved, from the menu served, opening hours, employees, to marketing techniques. Also, adding spots that can attract tourists.
“In the future, I plan to build a photo spot, then also hold cultural attractions, and develop the culinary offerings,” said Indrawan.
For security, Angkringan The Beji has CCTV. He also installed a special application to monitor sales results in real time.
“Yesterday, we made IDR 4 million. This is monitored. Because this belongs to the village government, transparency must be our priority,” he explained.
