Angkot, Becak and Delman in West Java Stop Operating During Eid Homecoming, Receive Rp200,000 per Day in Compensation

VIVA – The West Java Provincial Government plans to disburse a compensation fund of Rp200,000 per day to around 5,812 local transport drivers (angkot, becak, delman) to stop operating for 12 days during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return period. The prohibition on operation during the homecoming period starts on H-3 of Eid al-Fitr 2026. The head of the West Java Department of Transportation (Dishub), Dhani Gumelar, said the distribution of funds, with a total budget of around Rp6.3 to Rp6.5 billion to avert potential congestion, is scheduled to be paid via bank transfer on 12 or 13 March 2026. “For the compensation, we will distribute starting on 12 or 13 March. We are preparing this. There will be two regional clusters,” Dhani Gumelar said in Bandung on Saturday, 7 March 2026. The operation ban scheme is divided into two main clusters, namely the homecoming route cluster covering Pantura areas such as Cirebon and Subang, and the tourism route cluster covering Puncak Bogor, Cianjur, Lembang, Garut, and Tasikmalaya. For drivers on the homecoming routes, the operating ban will be enforced from H-3 of Eid al-Fitr. Meanwhile, for the tourism routes, operational adjustments focus on the period after the holiday. “So some seven days, some five days. The variation now,” Dhani explained the duration of the temporary halt for angkot, becak, and delman. Technically, compensation for motorised angkot is prioritised for drivers in the Puncak area (Bogor and Cianjur). Non-motorised transport such as delman and becak are allocated to drivers on congested routes in the districts Bandung Barat, Bandung, Garut, Tasikmalaya, Kuningan, and Cirebon. According to the schedule, vehicles on the homecoming and return routes are asked to stop operating on 18, 19, 20, 23, 24, 27, and 28 March 2026. For the tourism cluster, enforcement takes place on 22, 23, 24, 27, and 28 March 2026. This route engineering step is taken to ensure smooth traffic flow for millions of mudik travellers crossing West Java during Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. (ANTARA)
