PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, the Supadio International Airport branch office, has planted 14,000 mangrove trees in Sungai Kupah Village, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan.

The planting was centred in the Pelangi Kapuas Park Ecotourism area, Sungai Kakap District, as part of the company’s commitment to environmental conservation and its Environmental and Social Responsibility (TJSL) programme, said Muhamad Haikal, Deputy Regional Human Capital & Business Support of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia Regional Office VI, in Sungai Raya on Saturday.

He said the programme is directed at maintaining coastal ecosystems, preventing abrasion, and supporting efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the coastal area of Kubu Raya Regency.

The activity is also part of the implementation of the InJourney Green – Nature Focus programme, which encourages sustainable environmental actions around the company’s operational areas.

The selection of Sungai Kupah as the planting location took into account the area’s potential as a mangrove ecotourism destination developed together with the local community, he said.

Haikal said mangrove planting is not merely a greening activity, but a long-term investment for the coastal ecosystem and the community.

He said the presence of the airport and the company’s operations are expected to provide not only economic impact, but also benefits for environmental sustainability and the empowerment of local communities.

The programme was carried out through collaboration between PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia and the regional government, relevant agencies, and community leaders. Among the officials present were representatives from the Mangrove and Peat Ecosystem Management Agency, the Head of the Kubu Raya Environmental Agency, the Head of Sungai Kakap District, and the Head of Sungai Kupah Village.

In addition to restoring the ecological function of the coastal area, the mangrove planting is expected to strengthen the appeal of Pelangi Kapuas Park as an educational and nature tourism area.

The development of ecotourism is expected to provide economic impact for the community through increased tourism activity while encouraging residents’ involvement in protecting the mangrove area.
